Project Overview
- This case study details the design of RapidAI, a web application designed to Streamlining Long-Form YouTube Content Consumption with AI
- The project tries to address the time constraints faced by users—such as professionals, students, and casual learners—when engaging with educational videos like podcasts, tutorials, documentaries, informative videos and expert talks that often exceed 30 minutes. The key challenge was to create a tool that distills valuable insights from these videos into concise summaries while enabling users to retain and organize information effectively.
This project not only honed my skills in user-centered design and cross-functional collaboration but also underscored the significance of leveraging AI to enhance digital experiences .
- I faced this problem in my workflow. Youtube is a library of resourceful and informative video content that is very useful for users but these videos are generally long ranging from 15min - 30min - 1hr plus which take up lot of my time.
Long-form content (videos ≥30 minutes) dominates YouTube usage, accounting for 73% of all viewing time in the U.S. as of October 2024, up from 65% in 2023. Younger demographics exhibit even higher engagement:
- 18–24-year-olds spend 2.7 hours/day on YouTube, watching ~25 videos daily.
- Mobile viewers in this age group dedicate 79% of their YouTube time to long-form content.
- Time Wasting: Falling into the "rabbit hole," & losing hours watching YouTube videos often on topics they didn't initially intended to explore. Time wasting due to distractions in the YouTube platform and addiction to the YouTube platform.
- Productivity killer: User describing YouTube as a "productivity killer". Length of these YouTube videos is a concern especially when the users are seeking for specific information.
- Learning issues: Users engaged in learning new skills through lengthy tutorials often face the challenge of revisiting specific sections.
- Time Constraints: A primary difficulty is the lack of sufficient time to watch long videos in their entirety, especially for busy individuals with competing priorities .
- Difficulty Finding Specific Information: Navigating through lengthy videos to locate a particular segment or piece of information can be a time-consuming and frustrating process .
- Maintaining Focus: Sustaining attention and engagement throughout a long video can be challenging, leading to reduced comprehension and a feeling of mental fatigue.
- Information Overload: The sheer volume of information presented in long videos can make it difficult to remember and retain the key points effectively.
- Desire for Quick Overview: Users often express a need to quickly understand the main points of a video before deciding whether to invest the time to watch the complete version .
- Users with Limited Bandwidth: For individuals with slow internet connections or restrictive data plans, streaming long videos can be problematic. Text-based summaries offer a more accessible alternative for understanding the content.
- Staying Updated on Evolving Topics: In rapidly changing fields, individuals rely on expert interviews and podcasts to stay informed. The ability to quickly grasp the latest insights and updates from these long-form discussions is critical.
- Accessibility gaps: Non-native speakers struggle with fast-paced technical content. Detailed reports Desire for detailed reports

- Globally YouTube, with 2.5 billion users, approximately 875 million may be interested in educational content, and assuming 50% watch long-form, that's 1.25 billion, with 10% (125 million) potentially wanting summaries.
- Estimated market: 125 million global users interested in summaries, based on 50% of 2.5 billion users watching long-form and 10% desiring tools, though exact figures need market research.
NoteGPT claims over 1 million learners, indicating a niche but growing market.
